I Workshop Energy-Efficient Lighting in Latin America: discussing a roadmap

The Workshop Energy-Efficient Lighting in Latin America: discussing strategies took place during November 27 – 28, 2006. It was the first one held in Latin America as part of the activities of the Efficient Lighting Initiative – ELI.
Various energy specialists were invited from a diverse set of decision-making bodies, such as from governmental sectors, representatives from research centers, universities and companies based in Latin America.

The workshop seeks to:
* Discuss the current Latin-American lighting market and its products in relation to energy efficiency, programs on efficiency standards, technological trends and the laboratory infrastructure for certification in Latin America in relation to the market potential.
* Elaborate a plan of action for an efficient dissemination of lighting-efficiency standards and technology in countries or regions of Latin-America.
* Promote ELI’s mission and activities for potential associates, such as the government, universities, research centers and companies.

The workshop, commissioned by the ELI and held in the city of Campinas (São Paulo State - Brazil), was organized by the Latin American office of the International Energy Initiative – IEI and by the Interdisciplinary Energy Planning Group of the University of Campinas – NIPE/UNICAMP. The event is sponsored by ELI and CPFL (a Brazilian electricity distribution utility).
