PREMIOS EFFIE – Premio a la CALIDAD
This year, ASMA-NY (New York Amercian Marketing Association) awarded the EFFIE Gold prizes to the Efficient Lighting Initiative Peru Program, in the category of non profit and public benefit campaigns. The award not only recognizes the quality of the publicity campaign, but also that of the effectiveness of the marketing strategy.

ELI participated in the "Energía 2001" Exposition
In December 2001 the ELI Program was presented at the Third International Exposition " Energía 2001". The ELI program participated with a booth at the exposition in which the benefits of the program for the energy sector were made known. Various personalities, including the General Manager of Edelnor, Emilio García Diez, and the Vice Minister of Energy Carlos Garaycochea visited the ELI booth.

Prominent professionals and authorities were present in "Energía 2001" Exposition. These included - Walter Sciutto, Miguel Angel Martínez, Emilio García, Reynaldo Llosa Barber, José María Hidalgo, Luis Haro Zavaleta, Carlos Solis and Alberto Arribas.

ELI launched a Publicity Campaign in Cusco
In order to foster the purchase of energy saving lamps with ELI Quality Seal, during June 2002, there was a publicity campaign both in radio and in the press in Cusco City. The publicity emphasized the quality of the energy saving lamps certified by ELI. The certified trademarks which were sold with ELI Quality Seal in this city increased their sales by more than 50% during the month in which the campaign took place.

As part of the publicity of the Program this ad appeared in the newspapers of Cusco.

In March 2002, ELI organized a workshop in Petroperu in Lima. For this event lighting manufacturers and distributors installed stands to display their products and hand out information. The workshop brought together Peruvian lighting market actors to get their commitment to develop an efficient lighting market in Peru. Personalities from government and industry attended the Workshop, including Mr. Emilio Garcia Diez (General Manager of Edelnor, an electricity distribution company serving Lima), Ing. Jose Carrasco Tavara (Chairman of the Peruvian Congress Energy Committee), and Ing. Jorge Aguinaga Diaz (Director General of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mines), who gave the closing speech, on behalf of the Minister of Energy and Mines.

ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN THIRD STAGE
In March 2002, ELI launched the third stage of its massive publicity campaign, with a national scope, with ads in television, radio and newspaper. The campaign, directed to heads of family and housewives, informed people of the benefits of ELI-certified CFLs, emphasizing the ELI quality seal and the 6,000-hour life of ELI-certified CFLs. The campaign run until June 2002 and was well received.

ELI CERTFIED CFL DONATION TO POOR FAMILIES IN ANDEAN VILLAGES OF AYACUCHO AND CUZCO
In May 2002, the ELI Program, together with the government company Adinelsa (in charge of administering electrical service in small rural populations), and CFL distributor Philips, donated 100 CFLs with ELI seal to inhabitants of the villages of San Francisco and Kimbiri, between the Departments of Ayacucho and Cuzco in the Andes mountains. The objective of the campaign was to educate and benefit low-income families and to introduce them to efficient lighting products. This activity was supported by local authorities and Electrocentro, the regional electricity distribution utility.
