The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy

DOE's Building Energy Codes Program is developing
compliance tools and training materials, providing information,
and offering technical assistance on building energy codes. Their
site contains model energy codes, code compliance materials, training

The BSR is a comprehensive worldwide information

Consortium
for Energy Efficiency
Founded in 1991, The Consortium for Energy Efficiency
(CEE) is a non-profit, public benefit corporation that uses the
power of mass markets to advance super energy-efficient technologies
that benefit consumers and the environment. They do this by encouraging
utilities and other partners across the country to pool their market
influence by voluntarily adopting common programs and efficiency
specifications.

Member based organization of state and local purchasing
officials whose mission is to provide information about energy-efficient
and environmentally preferred equipment and products.

Information Administration
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) is an
independent statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department
of Energy. The EIA site includes downloadable reports on energy
consumption in households, commercial buildings, and manufacturing
facilities.
Green
Lights Program of the US EPA
The U.S. EPA Green Lights Program encourages the
widespread use of energy-efficient lighting. Their site includes
a list of Green Lights participants, support services, and on-line
manuals and publications.
Heatisonline
This site is based on the book The Heat Is On, by
Ross Gelbspan. The main feature of the site is a 6,000 word text
overview on the ability of the planet to sustain civilization vs.
the survival of the fossil fuel industry. This site also features
a 10-minute multi-media presentation on climate change, a chronicle
of the last four years of the increasingly frequent and severe weather
events all over the world and a digest of the major scientific findings
on global warming.
International
Council for Local Environmental Initiatives
ICLEI is building and supporting a worldwide movement
of local governments to improve global environmental conditions
through local actions. More than 240 cities, towns, and counties
as members. Their site includes project descriptions, newsletters,
and a "tools guide" for local governments.

Energy Agency Demand-Side Management Programme
IEA's focus is on a compilation and analysis of
the impacts of energy-efficiency programs, based on measured data
(rather than estimated savings, costs, etc.).

Network for Sustainable Energy
With a network of 170 organizations in more than
60 countries, INFORSE fosters information exchange and coordinated
campaigns. Their site includes newsletters, project summaries, and
a list of members.
Natural
Resources Defense Council
NRDC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting
the world's natural resources and ensuring a safe and healthy environment
for all. Their site includes many documents on energy efficiency
under the air/energy program.
Union
of Concerned Scientists
UCS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing
responsible public policies in areas where science and technology
play a critical role. The UCS web site includes an in-depth examination
of global warming as well as energy efficiency, renewable energy,
and transportation issues.
Nordlicht
(Germany) Nordlicht (northern lights) is a public
campaign for climate protection through energy saving and traffic
reduction. With a strategy of Participative Social Marketing the
Program seeks to stimulate citizen activity concerning global warming.
Novem
(Netherlands) Novem, the Netherlands Agency for
Energy and the Environment, manages a large number of national and
international programmes financed by the Dutch government and the
European Union. The main objective of these programmes is to save
energy and improve the environment. Novem operates essentially as
an intermediary between the Dutch and European activities and the
Dutch business community.

Lighting Procurements
(Sweden) Since 1990, the Department of Energy Efficiency
at the Swedish National Board for Industrial and Technical Development
(NUTEK) has been operating an innovative technology procurement
program in accordance with Swedish Government policy on the restructuring
of Sweden's energy system. The program is focused on innovative
technology procurement, demonstration activities, and market introduction
strategies to increase the market shares of new, improved energy-efficient
technologies. In the area of lighting, these include lighting technologies
and applications for homes, offices, schools, industry, hospitals
and outdoor installations.

The
Joule-Thermie Program
(Europe) The prime objective of the European Commission's
JOULE-THERMIE Programme is to improve energy security in the broadest
sense - i.e. ensuring durable and reliable energy services at affordable
costs and conditions - and, recognising that a major concern today
is the protection of the environment, to reduce the impact of the
production and use of energy, in particular CO2 emissions. JOULE-THERMIE
merges both R&D and Demonstration actions within one programme
- which had previously been carried out separately within the JOULE
and THERMIE Programmes - and introduces a new activity in support
of an overall energy strategy in the inter-disciplinary area of
energy-environment-economy.
