San
Diego Earth Times
The San Diego Earth Times (SDET) presents
interesting, informative articles on a wide range of topics intended
to leave the reader with new opportunities for action for the environment.
The SDET is published monthly by Earth Media, Inc. The internet
version of SDET includes a detailed archive of all their issues.
SDET also created a High-efficiency Fluorescent
Lighting Cost Savings Calculator. This calculator computes the savings
achieved by replacing standard incandescent lights with high efficiency
fluorescent units.
Alliance
to Save Energy
The Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit coalition of prominent
business, government, environmental, and consumer leaders who promote
the efficient and clean use of energy worldwide to benefit the environment,
the economy, and national security.
Home Energy Checkup was produced by the Alliance
to Save Energy and the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable
Technology with Howard Associates.
This program is designed for educational purposes
only. Its calculations are based on typical single-family houses
for typical climates
The purpose of Home Energy Checkup is to provide
a quick economic analysis of potential energy efficiency retrofits
in a single family home. To use this program, you need to enter
information about your climate, energy prices, heating and cooling
equipment, and appliances, and the program will then allow you to
evaluate retrofit options.
Solar
Utilities Network
The Solar Utilities Network provides simple, affordable strategies
for getting more power from the energy purchased. They also provide
a calculator that demonstrates what can be saved if incandescent
light bulbs are replaced with more efficient compact fluorescent
(CF) light bulbs.
PG&E
Energy Calculator
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is a wholly owned subsidiary
of PG&E Corporation and maintains its headquarters in San Francisco,
California. There are 21,500 employees who carry out PG&E's
primary business-the transmission and delivery of energy. The company
provides natural gas and electric service to approximately 12 million
people in Northern and Central California, or about one in every
20 Americans. Our service area covers 70,000 square miles.
PG&E also provides an energy calculator to help
determine how much it cost to heat and cool a home. Also, a variety
of household appliances can be included in the computation.
Sub-Compact
Fluorescent Lamps
A group of lighting manufacturers are offering sub-compact fluorescent
lamps (sub-CFLs) through a Department of Energy (DOE) Program designed
to bring new and shorter lamps to market. The sub-CFLs are energy-efficient
and long lasting, plus they fit into most incandescent fixtures.
How much can you save by using subcompact fluorescent
lamps? This site provides a calculator to estimate the savings by
comparing a subcompact fluorescent lamp with an incandescent light
bulb over a 5 years and will estimate how many months it will take
to pay back the sub-cfl investment.

Spring
Lamp
Technical Consumer Products, Inc. (TCP) specializes in the development
and manufacture, of energy efficient lighting products. These products
are based on two primary lighting technologies: Compact Fluorescent
lighting (CFL) and Light Emitting Diode (LED). The Company produces
the electronic and magnetic ballasts needed to illuminate energy
efficient CFL bulbs. TCP manufactures finished products, as well
as many component parts used to drive lighting products.
TCP offers visitors to their site a way to perform
an energy audit regarding your current lighting uses. This computation
provides a comparison of incandescent lamps with compact fluorescent
lamps.
Oarsman
This site requires the user to create an account by providing your
name, e-mail address, zip code, and affiliation. Once an account
has been created the user can utilize the residential energy analysis
program provided by BEACON. With their program you can perform a
comprehensive energy audit of a home or you can analyze a specific
category of end-use, such as lighting.
The data contained in the report generated is based
on information obtained from the customer regarding operating conditions,
estimates of equipment capacities and efficiencies, estimated construction
data, and average weather data. All present usage and savings information
should be utilized as an estimated.
Energy
Guide
Provides a free energy analysis tool for your home and small business.
