The IFC/GEF Efficient Lighting Initiative (ELI)
2003 FAQ update

When will ELI close down, and what will happen afterwards in the ELI countries, and worldwide?

Although ELI will formally close at the end of 2003, that does not mean that efficient activities in the ELI countries will cease at that time. Indeed, ELI was careful to design sustainable activities so that could continue at the close of the program. Thus in several countries, training courses which ELI designed and promoted are now part of the standard offerings of educational institutions; utility DSM programs which ELI helped create are part of utilities’ ongoing customer offerings, legislation that ELI promoted is helping to ensure a bright future for efficient lighting, or lighting organizations which ELI founded are playing an active role in moving their local markets towards more efficient lighting.

IFC will also be supporting the development of the Next Generation of ELI.
