What services will the Next Generation of ELI provide?

The Next Generation of ELI will provide a valuable service: it will be an independent body providing a credible list of high-quality efficient lighting products. This list will initially contain CFLs only, but I expect it will quickly expand to other products, including ballasts, LEDs and HID systems.

The users of this list will be anyone interested in promoting or selling energy-efficient lighting products. This could include an electric utility DSM program in your country, a government-run energy-efficient promotion in a neighboring country, a chain of mass-market retailers, or other aggregators. Since it is not possible to rely on funding adequate to continue the expensive consumer marketing campaigns which ELI has supported over the past three years, we believe that the market for the ELI quality mark going forward will be largely defined by these market aggregators.
