- Together with the National Technological
University (UTN), ELI launched its first Distance
Learning Course on Energy-Efficient Lighting.

- The Awards Ceremony for the ELI
Design Contest for Efficient Lighting Installations
was held in the IRAM auditorium. About 100 persons representing
professional institutions and the government participated
in the event.

| 2002 |
- Laboratory tests for quality
control of ELI-qualified CFLs took place.
At a global level, ELI selected the FATL laboratory in
the Philippines, in order to test the quality of ELI-qualified
CFLs.

- "Right Light
5" conference with
the collaboration of the University of Buenos Aires and
the National University of Tucumán ELI-AR, prepared
two papers which were presented at the conference,
which was held together with the conference "Improving
Electricity Efficiency in Commercial Buildings" in
Nice, France.

- The
6th Panamerican Lighting Congress LUXAMÉRICA
2002 was organized by the National University
of Tucumán (UNT). ELI sponsored it and made several
presentations including the opening workshop "Efficiency
and quality in lighting from the point of view of energy
use". The ELI Book on Energy Efficient Lighting (in
Spanish) was presented at this event.

- The
National Electrical Regulation Board (ENRE) authorized
ELI to initiate a pilot CFL sale to the
public through Edesur´s commercial offices.

- The ELI Educational Contest Awards
ceremony was held at the Parks Museum (Buenos
Aires). Well-known people belonging to the educational
area participated in the event, together with school children,
who received awards.
At a Science Fair in Buenos Aires province, ELI-Argentina
advised two teams of students from secondary schools who
presented projects related to energy efficiency and efficient
lighting in households.

- Displays
were set up at Edesur commercial premises, for
the exhibition and sale of CFLs models that have been
qualified by ELI standards. The brand names represented
include General Electric, Osram and Philips.

| 2001 |
- At the Biennial Exposition of
the Electrical and Lighting Industry (BIEL) held
in Buenos Aires, ELI Argentina handed out brochures at
the stands of the following companies: Edesur, Edenor,
Edigar Press and the Argentine Association of Lighting
Technologies (AADL). Also, ELI posters were placed at
several locations in the Exhibition Space.
Edenor presented an interactive game which contributed
to the diffusion of efficient lighting.
The Argentine Association of Lighting Technologies (AADL)
held a Lighting Update workshop within the Expo. ELI collaborated
in the organization of the workshop.

- ELI Argentina organized a Design
Competition to provide recognition to and reward
to efficient lighting installations in Argentina. The
rules were promoted in the professional media.

- Zavaleta, a neighbourhood in
the city of Buenos Aires, is not connected to
the natural gas network, and thus has high electricity
consumption. The low income levels of the population make
electricity bills difficult to pay. As part of a project
developed jointly by the Buenos Aires City Government
and Edesur, ELI carried out a training program, which
also included the participation of Edenor.
In Santa Cruz province, ELI held seminars
on Efficient Lighting in November 2001.
